Fans spotted several shock omissions as the BCB aims to move on from a horrid international campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Mushfiqur Rahim Retires from ODI Cricket after Champions Trophy Ouster

Veteran Bangladesh cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim has retired from fifty-over cricket. His retirement comes after an uninspiring showing at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Bangladesh slumped to defeats against teams they should have had a chance against, and Rahim seizes this moment to call time on his ODI career:

“I am announcing my retirement from the ODI format as of today. Alhamdulillah for everything.” Rahim said.

He maintains that he gave 100% for the team as an international throughout his career even if there are no results to show for such effort:

“While our achievements may have been limited on a global level, one thing is certain: whenever I stepped onto the field for my country, I gave more than 100% with dedication and honesty,” he added.

Rahim also thanked his family as he is set to focus on fewer formats in international cricket:

“Lastly, I would like to deeply thank my family, friends and my fans for whom I have played cricket for the last 19 years.”

Taskin Ahmed to Receive More Money than Other Bangladesh Cricketers after BCB 2024/25 Contract

Bangladesh right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed is set to get more cash rewards for international duty than his teammates in the new contract arrangement. He is the only cricketer in BCB’s A+ category for 2024/25 and looks set to earn more than veterans like Mehidy Miraz and Najmul Shanto (both in A category).

Ahmed will also earn more than players like Litton Das who couldn’t play a part in Bangladesh’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.

Shakib Al Hasan Left Out of Provisional List of BCB 2024/25 Central Contracts

Bangladesh cricketer Shakin Al Hasan once captained the senior national team across all three formats (Test, ODI, and T20I). Fans were left shocked when the BCB announced players with a central contract for 2025 without Shakib. He was also not included in Bangladesh’s squad to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The embattled ex-skipper has not had stable international appearances for months. His current ordeal could see him drop out of Bangladesh’s long-term cricket plans permanently.

BCB Owes Shakib Al Hasan Owed 4 Months’ Salary

Fans drew the BCB’s attention to reports claiming Shakib Al Hasan has not received his salary for months. The former Bangladesh captain across formats has had to deal with a turbulent time in his political and sporting career after a change of government in Bangladesh.

Hasan was implicated in a murder case during widespread protests that called for the removal of leadership headed by members of his political party. He was fingered in an investigation indicting 100+ individuals of wrongdoing during the protests.

An unnamed BCB official spoke on the matter during a recent interview:

“It’s true that he (Shakib) is yet to receive salary for September, October, November and December and that is largely due to the fact his bank account got frozen,” the anonymous BCB source said.

Shakib’s bank accounts have been frozen by the Bangladesh Financial Investigative Unit (BFIU) since November 6, 2024. The BCB claims Hasan’s frozen accounts prevent them from paying his ৳ 48 lakh (₹33 lakh or US$38,000) salary owed over a period of four (4) months. He is due to receive his pay from September 2024 to December 2024.
