MS Dhoni IPL Performance So Far (2007 – 2024)

IPL 2007 – IPL 2012

Dhoni scored 414 runs (65 HS) across 16 matches in the first-ever IPL season in 2007. He batted 14 innings and got 4 not-outs as a then-CSK debutant. His strike rate (133.5 from 310 balls) was a remarkable feat at the time for the young wicketkeeping-batter.

Dhoni’s next season (IPL 2009) will see him smash home 332 runs with a 127.2 strike rate and 41.5 average. He achieved this tally in 14 games.

He will go on to deliver another great season at CSK during the 2009/10 season. 287 runs (136.6 strike rate and 31.88 average) to cement his status as one of the IPL’s best wicketkeeper-batters.

Dhoni will continue in his fine form at IPL 2011 (392 runs in 16 games) and IPL 2012 (358 runs in 19 games) to improve his profile as a top limited-overs player.

IPL 2013 – IPL 2015

18 matches were all Dhoni needed to post 461 runs for CSK at IPL 2013. The talented wicketkeeper also had 5 not outs in the season at a 162.8 strike rate. His consistent performances continued as he bagged 371 runs during IPL 2014 (74.2 average) and 372 runs in 17 games at IPL 2015.

Dhoni decided to make an adventurous switch to the now-defunct Rising Pune Super-giants (RPS) after IPL 2015.

IPL 2016 – IPL 2017

Dhoni became RPS’ captain after his big-money move to the Pune-based franchise. His first season saw him put together a decent tally of 284 runs with a 135.2 strike rate and 40.5 average.

His high-scoring abilities coupled with immense leadership abilities ensured RPS had a great IPL season by all standards. He also scored 290 runs the next season before making the switch to CSK for another long stint.

IPL 2018 – IPL 2021

Dhoni’s CSK comeback went better than many analysts expected as he bagged 455 runs in 16 games at IPL 2018. His other performances from IPL 2019 to IPL 2021 saw Dhoni register 730 runs across three seasons.
