India’s Bangladesh tour could end up deciding when Afghanistan’s three-match T20I series against India finally gets played. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has already told stakeholders that the series is still on, but the schedule is not confirmed yet.
The matches currently have an unconfirmed date schedule entered for September 13, 15 and 17 in Delhi, India. Emerging reports suggest that those dates may shift if India’s Bangladesh tour goes ahead.
What Does the New Development Mean for IND vs BAN 2026?
The next few days and weeks are important for both boards if any scheduled bilateral series will hold in this calendar year.
Bangladesh is hoping to stage a six-match white-ball series from September 1 to 13, 2026 according to recent reports. The knock-on effect could force the Afghanistan-India series back by a few days or even longer if both cricket bodies lock in a series against Bangladesh soon.
Recent Geopolitical Improvements Could See IND v BAN 2026 Happen
Renewed optimism continues to emerge around the Bangladesh series because of recent political developments between India and their neighbours, as sources within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) claimed EoI documents for media rights are set for release.
Afghanistan Home Series Very Much Alive
Afghanistan’s home series against India is not called off; however, recent developments may push the date further down this calendar year. The ACB confirmed that their scheduled three-match T20I series remains very much on, which keeps the fixture alive while the boards work through the timing.
The Asian Games 2026, Windies Series Leave Little Room
There is very little room for a prolonged deferment because of the Asian Games 2026. Men’s cricket is set to begin at the competition on September 24, 2026. That window leaves a short gap after the Afghanistan games are supposed to officially end.
That timing matters for India because the cricket schedule does not stop there. India also has a home series on schedule against the West Indies starting on September 27. The tight schedule leaves a narrow margin to rearrange the Afghanistan series without colliding with other major commitments.
