Low Scoring T20 World Cup 2024 : Is 2024 T20 WC tough for Batsmen?

The ICC Twenty20 (T20) Cricket World Cup 2024 is almost halfway through its group stages, but we haven’t seen high-scoring performances so far. Several teams like India, USA, Afghanistan and Bangladesh secured victories in their respective fixtures without scoring up to 200 runs. Bowlers have had an excellent tournament so far in restricting high-scoring swingers from achieving victory.

Several factors contribute to the low-scoring games we’ve seen so far. Let’s explore some of these elements to see why batsmen are having a hard time in international cricket’s quickest format.

Why is the T20 World Cup 2024 Proving Tough for Batsmen?

Bad pitches

Poor pitch quality hampers cricket across formats, and it is becoming a serious issue at the T20 WC 2024. Pitches scheduled to host games have been subpar so far, especially across venues in the USA.

Better bowling advantage

The poor pitch quality may not favour batters at the T20 World Cup 2024, but bowlers are having a swell time across grounds in America. Bowlers take advantage of the poor pitch quality against batsmen, limiting the ability of hitters to achieve higher tallies.

What is the Highest Score So Far at the T20 World Cup 2024?

Australia scored 201 runs in Match 17 against England to register the T20 WC 2024 highest margin so far. Fans expect more of the same from other teams throughout other scheduled group games.

What is the Lowest Score So Far at the T20 World Cup 2024?

Uganda’s 58 runs against Afghanistan ranks as the T20 WC 2024’s lowest tally so far. The Ugandans slumped to an embarrassing defeat against a determined Afghan side with several exciting performances so far this season.

“India May Look to Score in the 140 – 150 Range” at the T20 WC 2024

Former Team India all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes that India won’t seek to score high runs at the T20 WC 2024. He made his comments known at a recent sports interview broadcast where he said:

Kohli will play a pivotal role in establishing the strategy for these pitch conditions and determining an optimal team score. Rather than aiming for 200-210 runs, India may look to score in the 140-150 range consistently. While they’ll take a higher total if it materializes, the primary focus will be to cross the 150-run threshold in each match.”

Pathan believes that Team India will look to score within a lower range than expected to navigate several nuances to win at all cost:

Seasoned players with World Cup experience are essential, particularly in challenging conditions where the ball is unpredictable. In these high-pressure situations, proven performers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have thrived on the biggest stage, are invaluable assets. These veteran cricketers prioritize victory for the team over personal statistics, unconcerned with strike rates as high as 120 or 150, as long as they deliver the win,”

It is becoming evident that teams at this tournament may look to score just enough runs, especially when batting first. Several factors surrounding the infrastructure and overall setting of the tournament could make this event a low-scoring fiesta throughout.
