Mumbai Indians Story ENDS: What is wrong with 5-time IPL Trophy-Winner Team?

The 5-time IPL champion Mumbai Indians team looked so perfect on paper. But when it comes to execution it could have been managed better. If we look closer at the team status, we might witness a lack of coordination and a puzzled squad situation. However, as many have been saying the Mumbai Indians team captaincy change influenced the playing style completely. If not imagine a team like Mumbai Indians under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy would have made its position to the ‘TOP 4’.

Let us discuss Irfan Pathan’s Instagram Video about Mumbai Indians and his opinion on Mumbai Indians’ captaincy change. Also, let us look into why Hardik Pandya’s captaincy is on focus right now.

Irfan Pathan’s Opinion on Captaincy Change in Mumbai Indians

Right before this IPL season started, the former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan had initially revealed his opinion. He clearly stated that when captaincy changed from Hitman Rohit Sharma to Hardik Pandya, the MI team was not going to have unity and wouldn’t be playing like a unit.

The former cricketer and present commentator added that captaincy makes a huge impact in cricket, and it is important to manage it properly. However, Irfan, it did not happen this time.

Irfan added saying he is no longer able to see the old Mumbai Indians team which used to play as a unit. Also, says that players accepting the captain and respecting him is very important, which could not be seen on the field. Hence, Irfan Pathan says that Mumbai Indians are lacking in this aspect and will have to look into this to further travel forward.

Hardik Pandya’s Captaincy on Focus!

This time Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2024, are having their worst seasons of all time in the IPL history. Just imagine! What could be worse? than a 5-time IPL trophy-winner team losing 8 out of 11 matches?

The Mumbai Indians marked its 8th defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders by 24 runs, that too in their home ground. Indeed, this became the first time in 12 years that KKR defeated MI in their home ground — Wankhede Stadium.

As a result, heads turn around towards Hardik Pandya’s captaincy.

What Irfan Pathan raised made experts and the audience focus on Hardik’s captaincy. As he asked, when MI had 5 wickets of KKR with just 57 runs, was it necessary to give Naman Dhir 3-over bowling? In fact should have been given to the main bowlers, who could have controlled the score.

But because of the improper decision, giving 3 overs to a sixth bowler during an important phase, the KKR were able to score well. Also, because of this Manish Pandey and Venkatesh Iyer could hold a strong partnership together.

Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s 56 for 35 balls, the team couldn’t push up to the target. Whereas, Irfan Pathan says that if Naman Dhir was not given 3 overs the score could have been 20–30 runs lesser. Hence, these runs were the difference between KKR’s victory and MI’s defeat.

Therefore, after this match, KKR reached the 2nd position of the points table with 7 winnings out of 10 matches. Meanwhile, MI has 8 defeats out of 11 matches.

Irfan Pathan’s Instagram Video about Mumbai Indians

In a recent Instagram video, Irfan Pathan spoke out these words in Hindi Language saying:

“Mumbai Indians ki kahani khatam iss IPL mein! Kyun ki squad ko dekhiye litni acchi thi paper mein. Lekin uss team ko tees se manage nahi kiya gaya. Aur jo sawaal uth rahe the.. Hardik Pandya ki kaptaani pe.. Woh bilkul sahi the. Kyunki, aaj dobara jab MI ne KKR ke 5 wicket kar diye 57 runs mein, toh uske baad aap Naman Dhir ko lagaatar 3 over dene ki kya zarurat thi? Uss samay aapko team ke jo pramukh gendhbaaz hain unko leke aana tha. Aapne toh 6th bowler ko 3 over dala diye aur uske wajah se Venkatesh Iyer aur Manish Pandey ki saajhedari ban gayi thi!! – 83 run ki saajhedaari!!”

Well, Irfan Pathan’s words translate to…

“Mumbai Indians story ends in this IPL season! Because the entire squad looks so good on paper. But, that good team was not managed properly. Also, the questions that have been raised about Hardik Pandya’s captaincy are correct. As today when MI was able to have 5 wickets of KKR in just 57 runs, was it necessary to give 3 overs to Naman Dhir? At that time you should have given bowling to your team’s prominent bowlers. But you have ended up giving 3 overs to your 6th bowler due to which Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey could make a successful captaincy!! – 83 runs captaincy!!”

Conclusion

Thus, the heated discussions revolving around the Mumbai Indians team’s worst defeat in IPL history seem to get more focus on Hardik Pandya’s captaincy.

However, it started right after replacing legendary Hitman Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya. But now the defeats are solely due to the improper decisions of the new captain. Probably that is the reason players in the team are not cooperative with their captains.

As Irfan Pathan said, Mumbai Indians are no longer playing with unity as a complete unit.
