Recently, the first test match concluded with Australia leading the 3-match test series atPerth Stadium with 1-0. Though Australia won the first test match dominatingly by 360 runs. Nevertheless, the Pakistan Debutants created history against the hosts with their impressive bowling performance.
Interestingly, this was the first time in the history of Pakistan cricket after 71 years that the debutants grabbed 8 wickets in a single test match innings.
Despite these Pakistan debutants creating history by securing maximum wickets in red-ball cricket, Australia dominated with their batting performance.
The Aussies scored 487-10 in 113.2 overs in the 1st innings. The blistering performance of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh powered Australia’s total score. In response, the Pakistan batsmen managed to score only 271-10 in 101.5 overs in their 1st innings. As a result, Australia was still leading with 216 runs.
Similarly, Australia declared the 2nd innings by scoring 233-5 in 63.2 overs. Consequently, Pakistan needed to chase 449 runs to win the 1st test match.
Unfortunately, the first test match concluded with Pakistan’s double-digit score of 89-10 in 30.2 overs.
The only positive aspect to be considered from the 5-day game was about young Pakistan debutants created history namely Ameer Jamal and Khurram Shahzad, by grabbing maximum wickets of crucial batsmen in single innings as well.
Later, Ameer Jamal, the 27-year-old, revealed his struggling journey from a taxi driver to an international pace bowler for the Pakistan cricket team. Also, he faced multiple rejections from the U-23 squad.
Especially, in the absence of Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi, these two Pakistan debutants created history and achieved many sensational records.
The second test match of the series between Pakistan and Australia will be played from 26th December to 30th December 2023 at MCG.

This is the first time that the debutant bowlers grabbed 8 wickets in a test innings.
During the 1st innings, Aamer Jamal grabbed 6 wickets in 20.3 overs by conceding 111 runs. It includes a maiden over as well.
On the other hand, Khurram Shahzad conceded 83 runs and took 2 wickets in 22 overs (including 5 maiden overs).
Khurram Shehzad dismissed Mitchell Marsh before the Aussie could reach his 4th Test century. As a result, Mitchell Marsh had to depart after being bowled for 90 runs from 107 balls ( including 15 fours and 1 six).
Additionally, Khurram dismissed the most dangerous batsman Steve Smith ( 31 runs from 60 balls- including 4 fours) before making a huge score.
Together, the Pakistan debutants created history by grabbing 8 wickets and conceding 194 runs in 42.3 overs of a single innings.
2. Second Pakistani Debutant Bowler to achieve a 5-wicket haul single innings:
Aamer Jamal becomes the second Pakistani Debut to achieve a 5-wicket haul in a single innings on Australian soil. Earlier, Arif Butt was the first debutant to achieve this feat against Australia in 1954.
Moreover, Jamal registered the 6th best bowling figures for Pakistan as a debutant in tests.
Furthermore, Aamer Jamal became the 14th Pakistani cricketer to achieve this feat in a debut match.
Aamer Jamal’s 6-wicket haul includes David Warner’s crucial wicket. The 37-year explosive opener was dismissed after scoring 164 runs from 211 balls( including 16 fours and 4 sixes).
Apart from Warner’s dismissal, Jamal’s other 5 dismissals include crucial wickets as well:
- Travis Head: 40 runs from 53 balls( including 6 fours)
- Alex Carey: 34 runs from 73 balls ( including 4 fours)

3. Second-best joint bowling performance by any Pakistan Debutant:
Aamer Jamal’s 6-wicket haul is the second-best joint bowling performance by a Pakistan debutant.
Earlier, Mohammad Zahid was the first Pakistani debutant to achieve a 7-wicket haul against New Zealand in the 1996 test series.
Aamer and Shahzad – The two Pakistan debutants created history by becoming the second most wicket-takers in a single test match. These duo debutants fell 2 wickets short of tallying the record.
Nauman Ali and Naseem Shah’s combination of 14 wickets during a test match against Australia in 2022 is the highest by any pair of Pakistan bowlers.
