The Indian Premier League (IPL) continues to attract superb talent worldwide. Franchises in the IPL always boost their lineup after each season with new players. In many cases, competing franchises could snatch up talismanic cricketers from each other during the off-season.

The rich IPL history across over fifteen seasons has seen many talented players feature for several franchises. Some cricket stars have become quite popular in the league and may play for a handful of franchises. Many of the top teams want premium talent and will pay big bucks to secure their star player across seasons.

Top Players Who Played for the Most IPL Franchises

Aaron Finch – 9 IPL franchises

Australia captain Aaron Finch has been part of nine (9) different IPL teams throughout his career. He first featured for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2010 before going onto the Delhi Daredevils shortly after. He will sign up for the now-defunct Pune Warriors India before penning another feal with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Finch has also played for multiple IPL champions the Mumbai Indians and later signed up as a Punjab Kings cricketer. The Aussie also represented Gujarat Lions, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Kolkata Knight Riders in his career.

Jaydev Unadkhat – 8 franchises

Jaydev Unadkhat has been part of eight (8) IPL franchises throughout his illustrious career. He made his debut for KKR in IPL 2011 and went on to feature for other teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, and Lucknow Super Giants. Jaydev holds the record for most IPL contracts across franchises among former Indian national team players.

Manish Pandey – 7 IPL franchises

Pandey made history as the first Team India batter to score an IPL century. He had a great career in the league, featuring for 7 franchises in total.

Dinesh Karthik – 6 franchises

Seasoned wicketkeeper and batter Dinesh Karthik has been a part of six IPL franchises to date. The cricketer kicked off his IPL career with the Delhi Daredevils before going on to play for Punjab Kings (PBKS). He would leave the Punjab-based side for a chance to represent the Mumbai Indians.

Karthik has also played for the Gujarat Lions and Royal Challengers Bangalore. 

Parthiv Patel – 6 IPL franchises

Parthiv Patel was once a member of India’s national team and his IPL journey proves why he’s such a top player. The talented wicketkeeper-batter played for a handful of IPL franchises, starting his journey with the Kolkata Knight Riders. He would leave the team for a stint at the Deccan Chargers shortly after.

Later on, Patel played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rising Pune Supergiants, and then for Punjab Kings. He also played for the Delhi Capitals at some point in his illustrious career.

Yuvraj Singh – 6 franchises

Singh played for the national team as an all-rounder and was quite of an IPL journeyman himself, featuring for six different franchises. The cricketer started his IPL career as a skipper for the Punjab Kings. He would also progress to feature for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Daredevils, and the Mumbai Indians. Throughout these stints, the talismanic all-rounder snatched 2,750 runs and claimed three-dozen wickets from 132 games combined.

Ashish Nehra – 5 IPL franchises

IPL teams fancy reliable bowlers and usually splash the cash to secure their target. That was the case for top Indian bowler Ashish Nehra as he went on to play for five (5) IPL franchises in total. The talented cricketer started his career with the Delhi Daredevils, becoming one of their most reliable seamers for some time.

He would move on to the Mumbai Indians and then sign for Pune Warriors India shortly after. Nehra would also play for the Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in his career. He featured in 10 IPL seasons throughout his T20 career.

Fans loved Ashish for his wicket-taking skills and he didn’t disappoint, snatching 106 wickets in just 88 games.  

Brendon McCullum – 5 IPL franchises

Brendon McCullum started his IPL career with a bang and every franchise wanted him after a sensational debut. The cricketer opened his KKR account with a sizzling century against RCB. He would progress from KKR to Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Gujarat Lions, Chennai Super Kings, and then RCB.  

He had a stellar career that saw him strike over 2800 IPL runs with a decent 131.7 strike rate. Brendon is also among few cricketers who have ever scored two centuries in this competition.
