PSL 2026: Owner of Multan Sultans Threatens Lawsuit Amid Renewal Saga

The owner of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, Multan Sultans, Ali Khan Tareen recently sent a public warning to Pakistan’s cricket governing body. Mr. Tareen threatens to sue the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) if his franchise remains shut out of ongoing preparations ahead of PSL 2026.

Sultans Owner Speaks on the Ongoing Issue with PCB

Mr. Tareen says PCB officials continue to ignore multiple emails sent by his franchise to initiate their renewal and valuation process:

“Over the past month we have sent multiple emails to the PSL management, asking for our valuation and renewal letter (which every other team has already received). But there has been no response,” the franchise exec said. He also claims his legal letter and correspondence to PCB’s chairman have not been received any response:

“No response to our legal letter, no response to our emails, no response to my letter to the Chairman,” he added. The Sultans owner shared that legal action could be a last resort if PCB officials continue to ignore their letters amid PSL 2026 preparations:

“If this ghosting continues we will have no choice but to take legal action. Which is the absolute last thing we want to do. This entire situation is so unnecessary and could have easily been solved over tea and biscuits. But fragile egos make simple things difficult,” he added.

Other Franchises Show Concern Over PCB-Sultans Row

The Sultans owner recently claimed other PSL franchise execs express concern over current administrative issues between his side and PCB officials:

“Even other franchise reps have asked why Multan is not being included in the valuation and renewal process. No response,” the franchise owner said, and also added, “For those asking why this is not being handled behind closed doors, it is simply because the PSL Management refuse to engage with us,” Mr. Tareen shared through his X handle.

Tareen’s Notice-Tearing Stunt Could be Behind PCB Snub

The PCB once sent a letter to Mr. Tareen before tensions deepened to this level. PCB’s notice to Tareen aimed to extract a public apology from the franchise owner. Mr. Tareen responded by ripping a copy of the notice apart on social media. PCB officials have not sent or responded to any letters since that incident.

Horrid Multan Sultans 2025 Outing Could Get Worse

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, the Multan Sultans, will want to forget all about the 2025 season and its aftermath in a hurry. A group-stage finish at PSL 2025 for the 1-time champion and 5-time playoffs team seems little compared to brewing drama. The franchise could exit PSL cricket before next season.

The recent outburst by Mr. Tareen put PSL officials amid intense media scrutiny. Journalists recently queried a PCB official regarding ongoing issues with one of PSL’s top franchises. The official revealed all ‘compliant’ franchises had received their valuation information and other necessary details ahead of PSL 2026. However, the PSL owner denies ever receiving such information

PSL Set to Add New Franchises Amid Multan Sultans Drama

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) directly oversees PSL preparations and it seems the body recently greenlighted two (2) new franchises ahead of 2026. Shortlisted cities for consideration to host the new teams include Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Gilgit, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, and Muzaffarabad.

How Many Times Have the Multan Sultans Played PSL Knockout Cricket?

The Sultans have been at the PSL finals on four (4) separate occasions since its entry into this competition. Their first-ever appearance in a PSL final produced a title in 2021. The Sultans will feature in three successive finals from 2022 to 2024 but failed to replicate their earlier success.
