SEE: FOUR CAPTAINS Might Be Removed After IPL 2026!

The Indian Premier League IPL 2026 group phase is nearing its conclusion as franchises seek to secure a place at the Playoffs phase. Several franchises have been underwhelming this season in their effort to secure knockout 20-over cricket, and these sides’ captains usually take a huge part of the blame.

Let’s explore four (4) franchise captains who may not continue in their current role after IPL 2026.

1. Delhi Capitals

Axar Patel’s captaincy of the Delhi Capitals (DC) at IPL 2026 has not gone as planned. The cricketer has overseen a run of results that led to 8 defeats (4 victories) in 12 matches. DC’s chances of qualification for the IPL 2026 playoffs grow slimmer each round, and Patel could pay for this underwhelming outing with his captaincy before 2027.

2. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane is another captain likely to leave his role before IPL 2027. Rahane has not replicated the success achieved by Shreyas Iyer at KKR since the latter’s exit, sparking calls for his removal as team skipper ahead of next season.

3. Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super  Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant looks set to vacate his role as team captain after another underwhelming season. The talented cricketer failed to deliver a playoffs finish for the Lucknow side as LSG became one of IPL 2026’s first teams to go out of contention for the knockout phase.

Pressure continues to heap on Pant to step down as captain, with some rumours claiming LSG could offload him ahead of IPL  2027.

4. Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians (MI) have gone three seasons without mounting a serious campaign for a record-breaking sixth IPL crown under embattled captain Hardik Pandya. The under-fire all-rounder returned to Mumbai in 2024 after leading GT to an IPL title and consecutive final berths, but that success has been long forgotten by league fans.

MI are out of contention for a playoffs place, and rumours continue to gain attention regarding Pandya’s future at the franchise.
