Glance at Mandhana’s Remarkable Innings that Sealed 1,000+ ODI Runs in 2025
The talented Mandhana’s 80-run innings involved a decent mix of clinical hitting and composure. The cricketer made a cautious start against Australia’s spinner before taking on Sophie Molineux to bag over a dozen runs with ease. Her face-off with Molineux already put Smriti over the 1,000-run mark before she pressed on to secure a big-hitting outing.
A half-century soon followed after 46 balls for Smriti. She combined several smart drives and aerial hits to ensure her tally rose steadily throughout the encounter.
How Many ODI Centuries Does Mandhana Have in 2025?
Smriti’s 1,062 ODI runs record in 2025 also comes with an impressive 4 centuries and 4 half-centuries. She also secured a career annual high score of 135 this year with a decent strike rate in the format.
Did Smriti Mandhana Really Break a Record Held by Virat Kohli?
Yes, Mandhana’s big-hitting season has seen her get one record over veteran Team India Men’s batter Virat Kohli. Mandhana became the fastest women’s cricketer to reach 5,000 ODI runs during this remarkable calendar year. She surpassed the milestone in 112 innings, two fewer than it took Virat Kohli (114) to reach 5,000 ODI runs.
Mandhana’s achievement takes nothing away from Kohli’s remarkable contribution to India’s international cricket scene. However, such a big-hitting calendar year assures Smriti of a historic finish to what has been an eventful season for her behind the bat.
Who Held the Highest ODI Runs Record in a Year before Mandhana?
Australia’s Belinda Clark held the record for most ODI runs scored in a calendar year since 1997. Clark’s record stood for so long, and she even failed to break the record she set in 1997 few years after (842 runs in year 2000). Her record (970 runs in 1997) stood for nearly 3 decades before Mandhana stepped up to smash it.
Other cricketers in the women’s game like Laura Wolvaardt (882 runs in 2022) and Pratika Rawal (848 runs in 2025) have made attempts to lead this ranking in recent years.
