Team India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has been in inspiring form at the ongoing T20 WC 2026. The WK-batsman’s performance has helped the co-hosts secure another finals berth after their 2024 triumph. Samson gives credit to learning from retired veterans like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli (fondly called ‘Ro-Ko’) for his current success:
“Yeah, I think that’s why I have been playing this format for a very long time. Playing IPL for around 10 to 12 years and being with the Indian team for the last 10 years… I have not always been playing, but I was looking from the dugout, learning from greats like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. It’s very important to observe, learn, and see what they were doing,” the cricketer said during a post-match interview.
Samson Relishes Performance at T20 WC 2026
Sanju has been India’s go-to middle to late over hitman at the ongoing T20 WC tournament. He is enjoying every moment of this encounter, and ascribes credit to perseverance and his desire to perform for India:
“It means the whole world actually to me. I think right from the day I started playing, started dreaming to play for the country, this is the day I was waiting for. And I’m very grateful, very thankful. I’ve always had a very special journey with lots of ups and downs, but I kept on doubting myself, kept on thinking: what if, what if… can I make it? But I kept on believing, and thanks to the Lord Almighty for actually blessing me today. So, I’m very happy,” the veteran cricketer added.
Samson Says Seeing Legends Up-Close Helped His Game
An elated Sanju claims that learning under the tutelage of top players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has been essential to his growth as a player in recent years:
“I think that [learning under the wings of veterans] really helped me. With my experience, I have only played maybe 50-60 games, but I’ve seen around 100 games. I’ve watched how the greatest players finish games and how they change their approach according to the situation,” Samson said while responding to questions.
Samson will be a part of India’s squad at the final match of the T20 World Cup 2026 on March 8.
Sanju Samson Last 10 Performances
Samson’s last null batting performance came against South Africa on February 4, 2026; but the wicketkeeper-batter has been in electrifying form ever since. Back-to-back near centuries against the Windies (March 1) and England (March 5) eased India’s run to a second T20 WC final in three years.
Fans hope Samson will be at his best during the final as India seeks to defend their T20 WC 2024 crown against a dogged New Zealand side.
