The current administrator of Pakistani cricket and former cricketer, Kamran Akmal, has recently slammed his own country’s board. Akmal criticized PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) for lacking professionalism and said they must learn from the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). And, his comments were after Pakistan’s 2-0 clear-wash defeat against Bangladesh in the Test series.
Reasons That Made Kamran Akmal Criticize PCB
Kamran Akmal spoke on his YouTube channel about PCB learning from BCCI the way they maintain Professionalism, selection process, captainship, and coaching.
Here is what Kamran Akmal said exactly on his YouTube channel:
“Yes! The Pakistan Cricket Board must acquire professional skills like the Indian Cricket Board which includes — qualified coaches, team, selection criteria, and captaining. For building the right team, these are the aspects to be focused on so that the nation will dominate the world. If PCB was really so good, then Pakistan cricket would have excelled and gained immense popularity worldwide. But it did not happen because of your ego, and that is the reason Pakistan cricket is getting worse.”
Why is Kamran Akmal Criticizing PCB?
Pakistan losing to Bangladesh in the recent Test series is the main reason behind Kamran Akmal criticizing PCB. In addition to that, there are 4 reasons why Akmal slammed PCB.
- In contrast to this, India secured its dominant and glorious winning over Bangladesh. Akmal wanted to highlight many current issues within the Pakistan team that the PCB should consider solving it soon.
- When Babar Azam led the team, Pakistan faced disappointment, losing the Asia Cup finals against Sri Lanka in 2022. Even then, it couldn’t improve its position in the following seasons and finished off at the group stage in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
- After facing continuous losses, PCB made a few changes when Babar Azam stepped down from captaincy, replaced by Shaheen Shah Afridi. At that time, Babar was brought back as captain for white-ball cricket just a few months ahead of the T20 World Cup.
- Later, despite Shan Masood captaining the Test, the Pakistan team could not boost its performance and faced a series of defeats against countries like Australia, England, and Ireland.
Kamran Akmal wants PCB to realize its mistake, leave its ego behind, and come forward to solve these issues.
Kamran Akmal Praised India’s Glorious Victory against Bangladesh
After India won its first match against Bangladesh in a Two-Match Test series, Kamran Akmal lauded the Indian players. He praised the stars of the match Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, whose performance was very valuable in India’s victory against Bangladesh in the 1st Test.
He added saying: “Excellent! Ravichandran Ashwin’s all-round deliverance and stellar performance were amazing as he bagged 6 wickets in the second innings and smashed a century. And, what a match it was with an extraordinary partnership with Ravindra Jadeja. Surely, without these two charms, India cannot for a perfect playing XI for the Test.”
PCB Chairman pays attention to Gaddafi Stadium’s development
Pakistan continues to speed up its preparations to organize the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. On the other hand, the ongoing development at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium is being greatly intensified.
As per the planning, the stadium’s enhancement is undergoing rapid progress, with most importantly trench digging and fence removals done. Now with these changes made, it would be easier to install a high-end digital scoreboard so that cricket fans will have a great viewing experience.
Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) went out to the stadium’s site visit on 22nd September 2024 to check the progress. While on his visit, he asked the team to focus on the timeline for each task and explained to them that every moment is essential for them. Also, Mohsin Naqvi had asked the construction team to place the digital scoreboard in a location that could offer the best visibility to the spectators.
In addition to the above enhancements, Naqvi has proposed the installation of elevators from the stadium’s basement. Hence, this will keep fans engaged with the match and even physically disabled spectators would be able to enjoy the match without any discomfort.
Kamran Akmal lauds Shubman Gill
Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have gained a lot of praise from many. Amidst this, Shubman Gill finds his spot, as Kamran Akmal praised him for the form he was awaiting to get back.
Although Shubman could not make a mark in the first innings, he found the right form in the second attempt with an unbeaten 119 runs.
Kamran Akmal lauded Shubman Gill, saying: “Of course! This was the form that Shubman Gill was long waiting for, and undoubtedly he is a top-notch player. Indeed, Shubman needs to score more runs because he is playing in the place of another experienced player and his presence should add value to the team. Gill is talented, and it is an undeniable fact because that is why he is in India’s Playing XI.”
