Usain Bolt picks his favourite side for the T20 World Cup 2024

Usain Bolt chose the West Indies as his favourite side ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. The ex-track athlete and multiple record holder’s choice is not surprising. Usain Bolt hails from Jamaica, one of the countries with a stake in the West Indies team. The veteran athlete hopes West Indies cricketers give their all to secure another World Cup trophy after tumultuous last few decades:

I am thrilled to be an ambassador for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Coming from the Caribbean where cricket is a part of life, the sport has always held a special place in my heart,” Usain Bolt opined.

While I will be supporting West Indies at the WC, getting the sport into the US is big for cricket. It’s the biggest sports market in the world,” Usain Bolt added. “The energy that we will bring for the T20 World Cup is a huge opportunity leading towards cricket’s inclusion in the LA Olympics in 2028,”

The West Indies Current Record at the T20 World Cup

The West Indies remain one of T20I’s most successful sides with two World Cups in their cabinet. They lifted both trophies in 2012 and 2016, registering their name as a top T20 side in international cricket. Their recent history of successes in this tournament will see the Men in Maroon take up a stronger approach to games at the 2024 edition.

What are the West Indies’ Chances at the T20 World Cup 2024?

The West Indies cricket team have always beaten several massive odds in T20 international tournaments. They are likely to go far in this tournament at home. Who is Likely to Feature in the West Indies T20 World Cup 2024 Squad?

Rovman Powell (C)

It is almost certain that Rovman Powell will lead the West Indies at this World Cup. He has been the leader of West Indies T20 international squads for some time now, and looks set to reprise this role. Powell brings batting prowess to the T20 World Cup 2024 and will hope his performances bring success to West Indies cricket once again.

Akeal Hosein

West Indies has had to rely on the bowling skills of Akeal Hosein for some time now. He continues to provide immense support to the W/Indies team. Hosein is a left-arm bowler with decent delivery in stock to confuse even the best right-handed batsmen. He has a keen eye for attacking cricket and could be a vital cog in the Men in Maroon’s engine to victory.

Alzarri Joseph

Alzarri Joseph has not lived up to the hype as an IPL bowler. The talented cricketer has failed to perform at par with the huge price tag paid for his services at auction. He may get a second chance to prove his worth after IPL 2024 with the national side; however, he is unlikely to start for the West Indies.

Andre Russell

Russell’s phenomenal form in franchise cricket is something too hard to ignore for West Indies selectors. The cricketer continues to fire in massive runs, including a stellar performance at the concluded ILT20.

Brandon King

King’s form in recent months could be a vital advantage for the West Indies T20 team. He has an immense batting response to several bowling attacks, making him a versatile option for this team.

Gudakesh Motie

Hosein could receive some competition from Gudakesh among West Indies selectors. The skilled bowler continues to impress against top teams, bowling decent attacks against the best batsmen from different countries.

Jason Holder

Holder’s experience in the West Indies international setup can be an immense advantage to the team’s chances. The cricketer continues to deliver powerful bowling attacks as a veteran and could spur his team to victory this term.

Johnson Charles

Chares can deliver massive batting attacks and would likely feature in the final West Indies full squad. He has immense runs-scoring ability and can anchor properly, making him a top batter any team would fancy.

Romario Shepherd

Shepherd provides immense batting prowess to the Mumbai Indians (MI) side at IPL 2024. Fans would love to have his runs-scoring skills at the West Indies during the World Cup.
