Aussie Cricket Veteran Believes Kohli, Sharma, and Dhoni Will Be at IPL 2026
Former Australia team captain Michael Clarke believes India’s aging star trio will be at the next IPL for their respective franchises:
“I think MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play in next year’s IPL. MS Dhoni is massive. Every time Chennai plays, even in away games, there are more Chennai fans than any other fan. Sponsors, they are there because of MS Dhoni. The fans, they are there because of MS Dhoni,” Clarke said.
‘King’ Dhoni will stay at Chennai next season
He went further to dub MS Dhoni as the “King of Chennai Super Kings” and believes the side will want him in their squad next season:
“He is the king of that franchise. They want him to keep playing and I don’t think people realise the impact. When he decides to retire, it will be a huge loss to the franchise,” the retired cricketer said.
“Impact player doesn’t help IPL”
Clarke believes the Impact Player rule will remain active at IPL 2026; however, he doesn’t believe it positively affects the game in India:
“The impact player will stay. I don’t think the rule helps Indian cricket. It is great for the tournament. You don’t do it in the international level. With regards to the IPL, they’ll keep the impact player in,” he concluded.

Is Kohli Retiring from ODI Soon?
Virat believes he still has something to offer the national team in 50-over cricket. Kohli suggests that his longevity in the format and success in recent years will help Team India secure more laurels before his eventual retirement:
“I try to speak to these guys [young players] as much as possible, try to share my experience, how I’ve been able to play for so long, try to step in wherever I can to help improve their games and yeah, it’s only, as they rightly say, when you leave, you want to leave the place in a better position,” Kohli told reporters during a recent interview.
The ex-ODI skipper believes Team India has a strong chance to dominate cricket ahead of their rivals throughout the next decade:
“That’s our effort, you know, that’s what we’re striving for that when eventually we are finally done at whatever stage, we have a squad that’s ready to take on the world for the next 8-10 years, and these guys definitely have the talent to do so,” the star batsman concluded.
