Sarfaraz and Musheer Khan could feature in the same lineup for Team India very soon. Both brothers are now making waves within India’s international cricket circle, making their tag team almost inevitable. Elder brother Sarfaraz already has a reputation in Team India’s selection, with Musheer fast rising to represent his country at senior level.
The 19-year-old Musheer is gearing up to become one of India’s most-consistent players with his recent performance. His emerging profile as a top prodigy could see another member of the Khan family become a Team India player.
Let’s explore reasons why we could see both brothers playing for the Men in Blue very soon.
Major Reasons Why We Can See the Khan Brothers Playing for India Soon
1. Musheer’s Easy Move to Senior Cricket
Musheer has had an impressive career in youth cricket, particularly in the under-19 level. The youngster registered his class with high-hitting outings at the U-19 World Cup. A century against Ireland coupled with another on his Duleep Trophy debut already sends signs to BCCI selectors.
Musheer managed a decent 181 off 373 at the Duleep Trophy when India B faced India A. His outing helped stabilize the India B innings when they were down bad at 94 – 7.
Young Musheer is a composed cricketer and rarely folds under pressure. He also possesses immense technical brilliance as evident in his approach to games at the Duleep Trophy 2024. Musheer could earn a Test cap soon with his proven performances as a domestic cricketer.
2. Complementary Playing Styles between the Brothers
Both brothers have trained with each other for years before getting into India’s cricket spotlight. Musheer Khan recounts his daily routine with Sarfaraz as young trainees under their father’s wing:
“I started playing leather-ball cricket when I was four or five, … When our father played, he did so with a lot of vigour and passion. We try to play just like him”.
Unique playing chemistry
Musheer also documents other timelines and reveals how he gets to bowl at his brother during practice for several minutes daily:
“We wake up at 5am, By 5.30 or 6am, we leave for the ground. Around 6.30-6.40am, we start practice when the sun is out and the nets are up. From 7-9am, we do one round of batting and bowling, where I get to bowl at Sarfaraz.”
Opposite skillsets built for years
The brothers have taken advantage of their roles to hone various skills for hours that now complement their playing styles as senior cricketers. Musheer spoke on how he and Sarfaraz get to practice for 5 hours or more as youngsters to build their skillset:
“If we’ve got our Mumbai team training at the Bandra-Kurla Complex, we probably bat from 11am to 12pm, and leave by 12.30. If we’re playing the entire game, if it ends at 4pm, we practise again from 4pm to 6pm, and only then head for home.”
Brotherly support
Sarfaraz was obviously emotional when his younger brother smashed a century at the Duleep Trophy 2024. Both brothers often share a close relationship built over years of practice in their locale. Their impressive talents complement each other nicely, and their solid support base will come in handy in future games.
3. Doubtless Credentials of Sarfaraz Khan
Sarfaraz has had an exciting domestic cricket journey since his debut. He continues to deliver consistent performances that wow cricket fans and teammates.
Sarfaraz’s brother reveals why the cricketer is a consistent player across games:
“Our father has conditioned us to score big, … For us, our century starts at 150. He’s told us to play our shots after reaching that milestone. We need to play the whole day, stay at the wicket. And we’re very hungry for runs.”
The elder Sarfaraz may struggle in some outings, but his undeniable talent keeps him within selection across formats. His decent track record earned him a Test cap. We could see Sarfaraz grace multiple formats for Team India alongside his brother if his performances are stable.
4. Musheer Khan’s Achievements and Rising Profile
Khan’s performance at the Duleep Trophy 2024 has his name on many lips for good reasons. His rising popularity and achievements as a youth cricketer could propel him to India’s senior team in no time. The young cricketer’s dominant approach to batting and other on-field contributions could catch the eye of BCCI senior selectors soon. Such attention on Musheer will see him join Sarfaraz in India’s senior team.
