Team India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer will miss his country’s ODI series against South Africa. The cricketer sustained an abdominal injury during India’s tour of Australia and will require several weeks to achieve full recovery. Such a long recovery period rules him out of active play when South Africa tour India from November.
BCCI Statement Confirms Iyer’s Injury
An official BCCI statement gave vital updates regarding Iyer’s injury situation:
“Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding on 25th October during the third ODI against Australia,” the statement read. Another section of the statement reveals that Iyer is now stable after receiving immediate medical attention:
“The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement,” a section of the statement added.
Iyer will receive major medical care in Australia, according to the BCCI statement:
“The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress,” the statement confirmed.
ODI Captain Confirms Iyer’s Path to Recovery
Team India ODI skipper Suryakumar Yadav revealed details of his recent chat with Iyer after the latter’s injury. Yadav confirms that Iyer is in a stable condition and well on his way to a full recovery:
“The first day, when I got to know that he was injured, I called him. I got to know that he did not have his phone. So, I called the physio and he told me that he was stable. On day one you cannot be sure of anything. But I have been talking to him over the last two days and he has been replying on phone. If he is replying, it means that he is stable,” the skipper said.
Iyer’s Parents Applied for Fast-Track Visa to Sydney After Player’s Injury
Several reliable media reports claim that Iyer’s parents applied for an expedited visa to be with their son in Australia. The cricketer is receiving medical care in Australia, and recent developments suggest his parents will be beside him to offer needed support while he recovers.
